Ashgrove Gate Jig

Ashgrove Gate

“Ashgrove House was situated on the middle road to Macroom.  (By coincidence, it was owned by a family by the name of Ashe until the middle of the nineteenth century).

It was burned in 1922 during the Civil War.The farm and what remained of the house was sold some time afterwards to a friend of my father’s.  He in turn presented my father with a double gate from the place which hangs to this day in an entrance to one of the fields at home.”

Geata Garrán na bhFuinseog

“Bhí tigh mór, Tigh Gharrán na bhFuinseog, ar an mbóthar meánach  isteach go Maigh Chromtha.  (Dála an scéil, bhí sé i seilbh muintir Ághas go dtí lár na naoú aoise déag).

Dódh é sa mbliain 1922 le linn Cogadh na gCarad.   Díoladh an fheirm agus an méid a bhí fágtha den tigh tamall ina dhiaidh sin le cara m’athar.  Eisean a thug an geata dúbalta as an áit, dom’ athar, agus tá sé fós ar crochadh ag slí isteach go páirc sa bhaile againn.”
