Brother Browne’s Reel

Brother Browne’s

“John Browne was born in Drom Réidh, Cill na Martra in 1880.  He was drafted to the British army in World War One and was wounded in Flanders.  On his return home to Cill na Martra, he wrote many well-known songs including the “Cill na Martra Exile” and the “Trip to Gougane”.  He eventually joined St. John of God’s Brothers where he devoted the rest of his life caring for people with disabilities.”

Port an Bhráthair de Brún

“Rugadh Seán De Brún i nDroim Réidh, Cill na Martra sa mbliain 1880. Coinscríobhadh in arm na Breataine é le linn an chéad chogadh domhanda agus leonadh é i bhFlóndras.  Nuair a fhill sé ar Chill na Martra, scríobh sé mórán amhráin go raibh aithne mhaith orthu ar nós “Deoraí Chill na Martra” (The Cill na Martra Exile) agus “An Turas go Guagán” (The Trip to Gougane).  Sa deireadh, chuaigh sé isteach i mBráithre Eoin Dé, áit ar thug sé an chuid eile dá shaol ag tabhairt aire do  dhaoine faoi mí-chumas.”
